Press Release:

Local Doctor Suspected of being International Child Superhero

(May 1, 2008) Fighting the ever growing concern for super-villains of Carb-Load and Sugar Hips, Dr. Richard Visser was recognized by Councilwoman Jan Perry and the Los Angeles City Council for all of his work in the field of Childhood Obesity. On Friday April 25th, Councilman Bernard Parks, accompanied by former City Councilman Nate Holden,  presented Dr. Richard Visser with a Commendatory Resolution, an award that recognizes Dr. Visser for his contribution and dedication to the study and the fight against Childhood Obesity.

“Dr. Richard Visser’s commitment to the health, nutrition, and education of our young people is truly commendable,” said Councilwoman Perry. ”As a community, we must recognize the severe health consequences associated with childhood obesity–high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. It is important that we are proactive in our approach, introducing good nutrition and promoting an active lifestyle among our young people. Dr. Visser has dedicated his life to this goal, and it is only fitting that we thank him and highlight his work.”

In his speech for Dr. Visser, Nate Holden, one of Los Angeles most known and prominent politicians stated, “Everything that he accomplished he did without his father, so he wanted to help us understand what we can do as parents, what we can do as a city, to combat obesity in our young people, and older (people) as well.  It is indeed my pleasure to join Councilman Parks & Ms.  Perry in this presentation to a person most deserving because has done so much for us already and yet he is young and has so much more to do”

“Childhood Obesity is the most important fight and the longest fight I will fight but I am here to help and we are going to go with this project all the way” stated Dr. Visser in his comments to the City Council as he thanked them for this tremendous honor.

Dr. Richard Visser has dedicated his life to fighting the obesity issues after his father died from an obesity issue when he was eight. He focused his education towards health with his first degree in 1988 with a BS from St. Michaels College in Vermont, and continued his studies and research through 2007, when he received his PhD from the University of Public Health, Havana. He has been involved with the field on many fronts, as an academician, a clinical researcher, an activist, an educator, a doctor and as a father. Dr. Visser, founder of the Richard Visser Institute and SimplyH, LLC, has worked on both national and international fronts to fight Childhood Obesity. SimplyH LLC creates and markets healthy nutritional products for children. His TV show “Xtreme H Games” will be launching soon.  In this TV show, Dr. Visser shows children how to find and build the superhero inside them that can help them conquer and realize their dreams.
